QuiltCon is still six months away - only six months, gah! - but I thought I'd share the little block I've made for our combined Aussies in Austin quilt.
All the Australian girls headed to QuiltCon have been invited to make a block for the quilt, which is being sewn together by Alys and will be quilted by Gemma. I'm not sure which category we'll be entering it into, though surely there's a category called Quilts of Awesome.

Our block-brief was to choose something Australian, and sew it in bright colours, with a low volume background. As I love Kristy's koala so much, I immediately put my hand up to sew a koala, and then thought how sweet he would look in a mix of Emma's fabulous Terra Australis fabrics.
I wasn't happy with browns for the tree though, and so had a sudden thought to cut up one of our brand new placemat panels, so the koala could be hanging out in a Hello Lovely tree, wahoo!
Can't wait to see the finished quilt - some really fun blocks have been made so far - Uluru, the AFL, the Southern Cross, an Australia with 'Oi Oi Oi' stitched inside! - and there are heaps more to come. There are awesome quilty-peeps headed to QuiltCon from Hobart, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, and Brisbane (that I know of so far!), plus a few from New Zealand - it's going to be amazing and fun to meet up with lots of girls I've known for so long online through Flickr, instagram, blogs and Facebook. I'll share the finished quilt here when I can. xoxo cat
How amazing! Can't wait to see the quilt. Hoping I'll get to Quiltcon in 2017! Too late to see this in the flesh though.
